Ok. My bad. I was using lame duck as an example. I'm not hoping anything on the lame duck session.
My question is/was, how long it takes for a bill(passed) to be effective. Is there a timeline within which President has to sign it? Once he signs it how long does it take become effective?
PS: I was guessing, I'm not sure of the 90 days time period.

Firstly let me say that the Dems taking the house is the only hope I see for change near term. If the Republicans take it then they will feel vindicated on their stand and stick to it especially in view of the current unpopularity of Pres. Bush.
Democrats normally sing the tune of organised labour on such issues. Organised labour is clear that they want the immigrants that come not to be exploited. In otherwords, if you let them come then treat them well as they are now part of the labour pool. This idea has some intrinsic merit. If you analyse things, it is usually during the long drawn out protracted green card process that unscrupulous employers take the most advantage.
Indeed the deluge of illegals will be a blight on the processing times, however without visa numbers there is absolutely no hope for EB India in the near term anyway. We have to hope for the lesser of two evils now.
Sen Byron Dorgan is always on Lou Dobbs show. He does not represent the majority view of the democratic party. I think he is making all sorts of noises to fight for his political life.

Santosh_gc, I agree with you when you ask "how can illegals be granted a path to citizenship, etc" I am from Mexico and I am as much against that as you, or even more! All those illegal aliens are essentially getting a free ride and the U.S. is trying to act all "Mother Teresa" with them just to attract the vote of Hispanics. It's sickening!

Apparently you completely missed the point. I am asking core members to participate in discussion on these forums, not to put sensational headlines that excites people. Hope that helps.

It involves but not limited to funding drive to sustain and grow efforts, membership drive to grow in size and have impact of numbers, generating awareness and building support via media articles. Speculating will not help much. Pls. do participate in these drives in order to build momentum for the coming months and we will all have better chances for any legislative change. We are all in this together and we all need to work hard to enable a change

How do you know that people with more recent priority dates are getting approved and you have been left out? You know this because these members of IV share this info with you and you are talking about using this info against them.
I won't be surprised if this will discourage people to just silently leave the forum after getting approvals.
well if they want to do that.. they can do that... wont discourage us from fighting this injustice against everyone in the legal immigration community... i for one consider the plight of EB-3 at this time to be more than that of EB-2... but why are just fighting among ourselves... instead of doing something as a group ??
